Forest Lane – Sunrise Mist

Forest Lane - Sunrise Mist

Happy Friday all……thanks goodness it’s here.

Very nearly managed to kill stormy at 6am, out for a run and she darted across the front of me to get to another dog as I set off running again and received and toe straight in her ribs, she squealed like I have never heard her before, poor little thing, I must have really hurt her, took 5 mins rubbing while she squeaked at me….she’s OK now albeit a little nervy of me, going to take some chewdles to bring her round.

This shot again from the weekend shows the intensity of the sunrise on a frosty morning, I had my polariser on which only just enabled me to pick out the blue sky top right, it wasn’t visible really with the naked eye as the light was so bright.

I have taken delivery of my Canon Powershot S100 compact camera, what a piece of kit, love it especially the slow motion video bit, great for capturing Stormy bombing around, when she isn’t hurt by a bad owner! I feel soooooo bad

Got some great stuff happening tomorrow. I’ll report back on Monday

have a great weekend

Simple – I wish I was there now

Sandsend Dreamscape

Although a very simple composition I love the feel of the warm sun on the boulder I remember it on my neck and shoulders as I stared out to sea gazing into the deep blue waters and sky. It always makes me feel closer to my mum (even though she wasn’t buried at sea)lol….. she couldn’t even swim but she had an affinity with the sea and like her I need to be near or in it every few weeks.

I think with mothers day coming up this weekend this image made me think of her like she was here and not passed away some 10 years ago, it’s amazing how time really does go by but the memory of that day is like yesterday, I guess it always will be and hopefully will stay that way. Mum was a water colour artist and the worlds most terrible cook, she used to put dinner on and go and paint, when she smelled burning dinner was done, we grew up thinking all food was supposed to be black and crispy!!!!

I managed an early run this morning with Stormy 5:30am, started getting into it now, I have never been a runner but needs must and Stormy gets some good exercise so I’ll stick at it, I was given some good advise about buying the best trainers and boy does it help, like running on clouds….well nearly! Breakfast was Pomegranate, banana and orange and my essential coffee, then it’s off to teh gym for 10am. I will get fit again!

Have a great Wednesday

Ok so I’m busy

Spurn Point Sunset

This one going out for Glynn who has complained that I’m not posting enough! I cant help being busy now and then you know..lol Seriously had a great time last week doing commission works so I cant complain and I’m off this Friday for a water shoot in West Yorkshire so that will be fun, Stormy’s coming too so I’m sure it’ll be wet doggy in the car time again!, hoefully it won’t finish up with me laying in mud like teh week before at Spurn Point.

This is from that very shoot, last few frames to be taken as the sun disappeared over the horizon and the temperature dipped into the freezing band, coat fastened up to the top and woolly hat on time, I’d already swapped my gloves as luck would have it I carry a spare pair, don’t know why buy they came in mighty useful or handy as they say when I splatted into the mud earlier.

This shot made great use of my Singh Ray Reverse Grad filter, killing of and blending the harsh light from the sun yet maintaining the lightness and detail of the cloud and foreground. “Guess who’s after sponsorship” joking aside its one filter you must have in your arsenal of equipment, there are less expensive versions but I like to think you get what you pay for and the service from Singh Ray was excellent. Build quality as good if not better than Lee Filters…..

International Print Exhibition next week at Barnsley Civic Hall for the RPS, hoping to catch up with a few reprobates from my past there, should be fun

And Glynn don’t sit at the window taking pretty snow shots, get on yer bike!

Smoke & Mirrors

Just thought I’d upload this image to show how little is actually done in the office. I reckon on 85% in the field and 10% in the computer 5% is me being daft enough to stand in 18″ of thick Humber mud.

Thought I’d just get a quick upload in before heading out with Stormy again. This one from Fridays jaunt over the Humber to Spurn Point. It really was a beautiful sunset however short lived it was, after an hour of setting up shots we ended up with about 15 mins worth of usable light. As I set off back home I called Jo to say I was on my way as the sun had gone down she said it was still up in Barnsley, just goes to show how the curve of the Earth works when even a mere 90 miles can make such a difference…..yes I know ” winter nights must fly by for me” lol

First commission of the week completed, a local art gallery, I have a country walk to do plus OAP’s swimming for a front cover and a luncheon shoot. Certainly not complaining, all helps as they say

Missed out on the sunrise frost shots this week but hey there are enough photographers out there snapping away, maybe next time

Thought I’d start the week off on a high with this sunset shot from last Friday’s evening shoot at Spurn Point East Yorkshire.

Although this may look a serene scene its was anything but, the sand well mud was a good 1-2 feet deep in places and Stormy delighted in pulling me every way she could, her having web feet was far superior to my wellies. Anyway as I stood at the front composing this shot, a hundred yards of mud behind me, I thought mmhh a step back and as i did I realised I was stuck fast and had nowhere to turn or grab hold of! SPLAT back first into the mud like a snow angel, I was covered in it, upto my elbows as i pulled my self out gloves, watch everything black with smelly mud.

I hope you agree the shot was worth it, I certainly do, as Jo did 3 washes when I got home and all my gear is back to normal now, she’s worth her weight in gold bless her.

Very busy this week a couple more commissions on, and were away again at the weekend, so I’ll try and post a couple more before then. I took my trusty crystal ball with me so I’ll process one or two of those shot later too.

Have a great week all

Been really busy lately so I’ll keep this short and sweet, Just completed the Christmas light, fireworks and German market shoots for Barnsley, really enjoyed myself and got to meet Bob the builder, she was very nice…..can I say that?…today was the heritage minister and lotto shoot for the regeneration of Barnsley’s fantastic Town Hall, they have done a magnificent job, looks so beautiful, very proud of my town.

Below a couple of shots from last night, looking forward to a little break now…….

Harmby Falls

Harmby Falls

Beautiful sunshine casting its light and shadows across Harmby Falls near Leyburn in north Yorkshire. Tucked away down a footpath you come across this lovely little falls, well worth a visit but can be quite muddy and if you have a psychotic  husk attached to you she can pull you in the water, just ask Jo…..shouldn’t laugh!

Their Lives Gave Us Peace

Their Lives Gave Us Peace

A very special image for today and one I would like to dedicate to my grandfather Francis Stevenson who took part in the ‘D’ landings 6th June 1944, there were some 9000 casualties (estimate), he died when I was a child in the late 60’s, I can just remember him. My mother only got his war medals in the 90’s and I believe the war office is still producing them today for families of  soldiers who never received them.

It says so much about these men who fought to save out today’s that they weren’t bothered to go and get their medals. Mum said grandad didn’t talk about the war, not that it was a taboo subject, you just didn’t talk about it. Whole streets of young men went to war together and never came back, dying side by side  and for what……

We treat our freedom with such complacency today as though it’s just there! while we still have our young men fighting to protect our shores from terrorist abroad. We are protected by a media bubble that inst allowed to show the true horrors of Afghanistan and other campaigns because of health and safety and the fact someone may be eating their dinner.

We allow every nation and creed to celebrate their own religion in our country and ask only that we get along peacefully, unfortunately their are elements of society bent on destroying this peace. I don’t know the answer to this problem I just wonder what my grandfather would think of it all now, all I can do is to live now as he fought for and live my life the best I can, caring, supporting, understanding and having compassion for others, hopefully this will reflect in my day to day life and I’ll be on the right tracks to be a true man like he was.

“They shall grow not old, as those that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”

God bless them all

Glen Etive Falls

Glen Etive Waterfall

Glen Etive is quite a long but safe walk, not too many inclines and when you’re carrying all your camera gear it’s certainly a help. There are a series of these waterfalls well streams some better than others along the way. As we walked into the Glen the setting sun was overshadowed by heavy storm clouds coming from the south. Thankfully they never took hold and for once we stayed relatively dry.

Made up with cold  today so it a “stay in and process day” I was looking forward to a trip out with Stormy…..looks like The Fleets again, mind you I cant complain, take a look below, its a 5 min walk from my house and Stormy loves it.

Barnsley - The Fleets

Think I’ll drive down though and save my energy for 2 laps with Stormy, hope I’m well enough for doggy training tonight. 🙁
