The river “Water of Fleet” gently flows through Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries.

This shot was taken whilst having a great  late’ at the riverbank cafe’ in Gatehouse, they also have webcams and cameras setup so you can sit in the warmth and watch the riverbank wildlife, well worth a visit.

Did a great shoot yesterday with two families with children for leaflets and posters to promote a children’s  centre, I know they say don’t work with kids but it was really nice, I spent an hour laying on the floor filming and laughing at their antics, hope they like the shots they were very cute.

Just added a “commissions” section to my gallery, its password protected and will be for prospective new private commissions to view my works prior to ordering my services, it will give an insight into my style and approach of magazine/promotional work.

Waiting for 2 printers to be delivered this morning then off to Sherburn in Elmet to install them, then it’s off for a riverbank walky with Stormy. Rest of the week is devoted to our super dupa boiler being installed, really looking forward to cheaper gas, can’t believe how much we’ve been paying especially with our 40 year old boiler….no not Joanne!, should I delete that..lol

have a great day

Susnet Purple

Using filters in photography is essential if you want to create something that’s not the norm or to enhance a scene. This one utilized a Singh Ray Reverse Grad and a lee .6 ND, the Singh Ray took off the bright glare from the middle area and allowed the sky and foreground to blend more naturally and the Lee .6 was used to slow down the shutter speed and help create the misty smooth feel to the sea ….simplez! other than that the hardest part is getting a darn good soaking and of course you have to be there……

Waiting for a phone interview this morning for “The Photographer” magazine, they are doing a full feature on me so very honoured indeed, all goes in the scrap book and hopefully it will bring more commissions my way, every little helps as they say.

Went to the RPS International print exhibition at Barnsley Civic gallery on Wednesday night, some fantastic images there and it was a great turn out, congrats to the Civic team for making it a superb event, mind you there was champagne and olives , yup olives, you know I never had one til i was 40 and when I did I wish I hadn’t….sheep droppings comes to mind..never again, made do with orange juice in the end.

Will hopefully make it out this weekend especially if the snow they have forecast materialises, Stormy will be ready with harness on waiting by the door no doubt.

Have a great weelkend

Sunrise Snow on Ladybower

Sunrise Snow on Ladybower

Sunrise in The Peak district  casting a warm orange glow over the snow tipped peaks. Ladybower in the bottom still frozen in the shade of the winter sun…..if Carlsberg did sunrises and all that!!

At last we have some snow heading our way this weekend, can’t wait, we’ll be out in it me and Stormy  stomping all over the peaks and maybe the dales too.

Off for MRI scan in 30 mins, cd at the ready though I do feel a little nervous, kinda hoping you go in feet first rather than head!!

will report back later, have a great Thursday all

Llanfairfeccan Blue Moon

llanfairfeccan Blue Moon

Wednesday at last hey! doesn’t the week fly by.

Still updating and loading shots into the website so I’ll be posting a few from a while ago now, though I’ll be out this Friday hopefully. I have an interview for a magazine early Friday, I’ll fill in the details later though it is to be a full feature so I’m excited about it, all publicity and that.

I have my MRI scan tomorrow on my back, cant wait to find out what damage had been done to me in the crash, been killing me lately and physio has helped the top half but not the lower, think it’s going to be a long term thing so I’ll just have to get on with it and take it a little easier….”yeah like that’s going to happen!”

Waiting in for the boiler man to come, we’re having a new boiler fitted and he needs to descale all the existing system a week in advance, then it’s off out with her Majesty Stormy for a walky.

Tonight is the Royal Photographic Society’s international print exhibition at Barnsley Civic Hall so I’ll be there with my ARPS badge on…lol, looking forward to it, there are some great shots in the show and hopefully hook up with a few mates.

have a great day

Quick one today, got to get some prints ready for a client, will catch up later

Another from one of my fav places just up the road from Beddgelert Snowdonia, you can get a great ice cream here, no wet feet or wellies required, stand in the car park and hey presto this is the view, turn to your right and its Snowdon looming high to the clouds.

Thanks for looking

Sometimes it’s worth a second look – Sunset Sphere Flare Play

Stanage Sunset Sphere - Flare Play

Morning all and a happy Monday to you, apparently today is the happiest Monday of the year….don’t know why don’t care I just feel happy..must be the drugs!

Anyway I was searching through my hard drive at some shots I did a few weeks ago up on Stanage Edge in The Peaks and came across this one, it was flared beyond belief but I though what the heck and it’s taken an hour or so to get it something like…the colour and depth are as shot  with 2 x filters on and a hand held star…kinda groovy eh?

So I’ll get on with my  happy week, couple of commissions and 2 workshops to sort so busy busy.

have fun

When you’re given lemons!

Eilean Donan Castle

As the title suggests you have to make the best of a situation and there’s nothing worse than the British weather for cocking up what was to be a lovely shoot. Eilean Donan has been on my “to do” list for ages now and we managed to spare 1hr whilst driving back from Skye to Dumfries with the caravans on the back.

The heavy rain stopped just long enough for me to stand in the water and capture  this image, then it threw it down again. I do however like the mood it gives and lets face it how many 1000’s of shots have we seen this in a sunrise or sunset format, Very very classic hey! Unfortunately this may not be that appealing for sales but it certainly gives a more unique slant to this view and one I’m pleased with.

Looking forward to a day out tomorrow, reservoir sunsets, hopefully with a twist

Ok so I’m busy

Spurn Point Sunset

This one going out for Glynn who has complained that I’m not posting enough! I cant help being busy now and then you know..lol Seriously had a great time last week doing commission works so I cant complain and I’m off this Friday for a water shoot in West Yorkshire so that will be fun, Stormy’s coming too so I’m sure it’ll be wet doggy in the car time again!, hoefully it won’t finish up with me laying in mud like teh week before at Spurn Point.

This is from that very shoot, last few frames to be taken as the sun disappeared over the horizon and the temperature dipped into the freezing band, coat fastened up to the top and woolly hat on time, I’d already swapped my gloves as luck would have it I carry a spare pair, don’t know why buy they came in mighty useful or handy as they say when I splatted into the mud earlier.

This shot made great use of my Singh Ray Reverse Grad filter, killing of and blending the harsh light from the sun yet maintaining the lightness and detail of the cloud and foreground. “Guess who’s after sponsorship” joking aside its one filter you must have in your arsenal of equipment, there are less expensive versions but I like to think you get what you pay for and the service from Singh Ray was excellent. Build quality as good if not better than Lee Filters…..

International Print Exhibition next week at Barnsley Civic Hall for the RPS, hoping to catch up with a few reprobates from my past there, should be fun

And Glynn don’t sit at the window taking pretty snow shots, get on yer bike!

Broad Beach Sunset Ripples

Broad Beach Sunset Ripples

Had a great weekend away with my big sis and her hubby, we took the caravans to Clumber Park, near Worksop, some spectacular woodland walks round there as well as a great bike ride round the lake. All manner of wildlife available for the twitchers out there. Unfortunately  the weather didn’t play fair and it pretty much blew a gale force with large amounts of rain thrown in for good measure the whole weekend. I Managed a few shots yesterday while on a nice walk, will see how they look later.

This shot from my recent trip to Anglesey, building quite a following there now and selling well to the locals too which is always a good sign! I feel a book coming on..lol

Whilst at Spurn point the other day Paul who I met there took this  shot below of me and Stormy standing in mud, not sure if I had just gone splat arse end into the mud or not at this stage, needless to say i wont be going back in a hurry! Cheers Paul, great shot

Smoke & Mirrors

Just thought I’d upload this image to show how little is actually done in the office. I reckon on 85% in the field and 10% in the computer 5% is me being daft enough to stand in 18″ of thick Humber mud.
