That Friday Feeling

Broad Beach "Sunset 'n' Rays"

Friday at last and I haven’t got anywhere near all my work done this week, which means I now have to slog it out today and Sunday to catch up, off to The Peaks with Jo and Stormy tomorrow as well as a visit to a caravan site in York to see ma and pa in law, they’re having their 1st weekend away in their new caravan so we thought we’d check the site out been as I recommended it 2nd hand as it were.

Another from Broad Beach, Anglesey. Could have stood there all night, the wind was howling though and the storm clouds grew darker but its such a great place, has an ancient burial mound to the left, I’ll post a moonlight shot later that you can see it in….I think I feel the same emotions the ancients felt at this place, time stands still and worries disappear and like they did you stare in wonderment at the setting sun.

Stormy is recovering from her anesthetic and we’ve just had a little walk, up 5 times in the night with her, she’s a little off but I’m sure she’ll be OK later when we go for a river bank walk. Turned her nose up at her toast and scrambled egg this morning….(don’t ask)

Have a great Friday all

Beddgelert

Quick blog today, got loads to do, Both shots taken at Beddgelert a beautiful little village in Snowdonia. The story goes……

“In the 13th century Llewelyn, prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. One day he went hunting without Gelert, “The Faithful Hound”, who was unaccountably absent. On Llewelyn’s return the truant, stained and smeared with blood, joyfully sprang to meet his master. The prince alarmed hastened to find his son, and saw the infant’s cot empty, the bedclothes and floor covered with blood.

The frantic father plunged his sword into the hound’s side, thinking it had killed his heir. The dog’s dying yell was answered by a child’s cry. Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed, but near by lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert had slain.

The prince filled with remorse is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here”.

Point To The Sun

Point To The Sun

I was going to enter a few competitions after last years success but after a conversation with Mr C the boss and my mentor of Landscape photography he said

“I reckon that winning competitions is a bit like passing exams, not necessarily the same as really knowing the subject, it’s more about knowing what is likely to please the examiners.” and lets face it you pay to enter, you fool!!

So guess what, my money is going to stay in my pocket this year and advance my technique instead. If a competition is for free then yes its worth having a go to win something maybe….only mugs pay to enter.

You see I’m finally learning …lol, leave the comps for the amateurs a famous photographer once said…how true

Today’s shot is as promised Rhosneigr, Anglesey, Broad Beach…well it is wide..lol

Never fails to amaze me that when the sea and light is as beautiful as this the locals aren’t down there sitting with a cup of tea watching the sun go down, When we finally move there my mission will be not to own a TV but to treat this view as my evenings entertainment, I know Stormy will approve.

Writing course notes today, it got to 35c in my studio yesterday, Stormy laid on the glass table on the decking to keep cool, she’s no fool then Jo came home and we got Stormy a little paddling pool..she loved it (Stormy that is) padding round with her over sized paws and blowing bubbles as she buried her head in the water..little things eh.

As Requested

Waterfall off Llyn Ogwen Smooth

As requested by Alison, a re work of a shot I took down, I wasn’t quite happy with it, this is much more to my liking and the balance feels just right.

It was very windy and a little perilous  as there is a drop behind where I was stood on a slippery rock, wind almost gale force and the waterfall at full throttle….Still

What a location, going back in 2 weeks time to spend a day there, cant wait..

hope its to your liking Alison

How We Suffer For Our Art!

Splash

Tongue firmly in cheek title! you may laugh but boy did I get a soaking for this one, behind me a 9′ sea wall and the sea already knee deep just lapping above my wellies…then I got hit by this and it was game over for the night. I made the shot then grabbed my tripod hoisted it above my head just as the main wave hit me up to my midriff….

Now I don’t know what women feel when hit by freezing cold water about their nether regions but as a man I can tell you the pain was quite alarming to say the least…I wonder if they do neoprene boxer shorts for photographers? now there’s an invention…better patent it quick .

The shot itself hopefully imparts the ferocity of the sea and it was extremely windy. I like to think that if I was going to go as it were this would be the way to take me to Tog’s heaven, but I was quite a  wussy and legged it after this shot..lol

scorching 25c here already 7am, this must be summer!

Waterfall off Llyn Ogwen

Waterfall off Llyn Ogwen

Sometimes you have take a step back and look at your work, I did this with the other waterfall shot and decided it was rubbish!

Although I like the smooth creamy water I think this version is far better, it gives a feeling of power and bleakness, bet it would look fantastic in winter…one for another trip I think.

Anyway this one has made it onto the website sales list , the other deleted..you have to be harsh sometimes and truth be told I wasn’t too sure when I started the processing of the other one where as this version instantly seemed right…you are your own worst critic comes to mind, better I spot it now.

I have another 10 ready so far plus another 10 to process so plenty to go at, were back in Wales in 3 weeks to complete my summer shoot, cant wait alreay as I scouted a few new locations and just need the right weather.

Peaks this Sunday with Jo and Stormy, I’m  Goathland, Whitby working tomorrow…I feel fish and chips coming on..wwwhhheeyyy

have a great Friday

Summer Warmer

Sunset Beach

Well it’s official, I need to get to the coast urgently, this weekends weather was a waste of time and we didn’t get anywhere apart from a long walk with Stormy, it was her 1st birthday, awwww bless her, you can tell we don’t have kids..lol and sadly it’s a year since we lost Timba our wolf/husky cross, she’s missed terribly even though we have our Stormy.

Shot is from Rhosniegr where we will be going in a couple of weeks again, as ever in search of a house, one day we’ll find it I’m sure. I need to do some more exploring and get to the North West of the island.

Sunset planned for tomorrow night Dark Peak area weather permitting, not looking so good at the moment but we’ll see tomorrow.

have a great week

Sunset and Wave Action

Cable Bay Sunset

Well we’re back from a fab week in Rhosniegr, Anglesey, the weather didn’t play very fair for the first couple of days with very heavy rain and winds, didn’t bother us though, straight onto the rocks and captured some serious wave action, shot below as I got one straight over my head, God you cant explain how good it feels to be alive when this happens, so exhilarating to say the least.

This shot above was taken on Tuesday evening  when we had a great sunset, I dashed round to Cable Bay and spent a good hour compiling shots, I must have 50 to process that will make it to web, the conditions were so good. In all I managed 3 sunsets, one sunrise and a hell of a great wave and wind day, thought I’d been in some dodgy spots before…..never anything like this, 30 foot drop and waves hammering me from all sides, my legs still ache from being tensed against the force of the wind. The  shot below illustrates the power of the sea, I was right in the middle of it, I saw the wave coming towards me quickly wiped my filter and lifted the camera and rattled off 3 shots, this being the most pleasing.

Much much more to follow.

Warhol Yachts

Slight curve ball of a shot today, this is my own tribute to Warhol with the yachts at Rhosneigr during a fantastic sunset, really like the way the colours work with each other, may have to try this with some other work, I think I get what he was doing or at least how the image makes you feel, saying that yachts or Monroe, well suppose Monroe wins!
