Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks

A beautiful sunset at my favorite place, Rhosneigr, Anglesey.

A very special night as the sun set sending shimmering light across the sea and casting a subtle reflection on the sea. A little unusual rock formation of Twin Peaks so I thought I’d add my little individuality with my trusty crystal ball….no jokes please!

Sorting more images for a big exhibition in Barnsley for this December in a great location, I’ll post details closer to the time. My exhibition at Cannon Hall, Cawthorne has brought a few sales so I’m very pleased with the orders there so far. Also getting images ready for a sales/exhibition in a restaurant in Rhosneigr so I better get cracking.

hope you enjoy this one anyway

Jurrasic

Porth Y Post – Jurassic

Porth Y Post – Jurassic – As the title suggests, a very Jurassic scene at Port Y Post, I was expecting a pterodactyl to come screeching past me.

Always a very serene and emotive location for me and it will I think remain special always especially so with me seeing the seal last week as I finished the shoot, can’t believe I didn’t really take any pics of him it was such a surreal moment, I was mesmerised by the fact that this beautiful creature was staring at me almost welcoming me into his world, the moment would have been lost if I’d started snapping away, and I owed him the respect he deserved not to try and disturb his viewing pleasure. wonder if he’ll be there next time I visit.

As usual, filters reverse grad and .6 glass, cleaned only in PS

Hay Bales Sunset and Sea

Hay Bales Sunset and Sea

At the foot of Holyhead Mountain nestled closely by the sea the farmer kindly placed some bales in perfect line of the setting sun, well I think he did anyway, although it looks calm and serene it was anything but, gale force freezing winds coming from the sea, it did however add to the sky interest. fast moving clouds called for a decent shutter speed along with my trusty reverse grad filter to enhance the beautiful sunset colours and mood.

Getting frequently asked about processing, I am looking into producing a short DVD or download of my workflow process within PS 4, 5 and Lightroom. alternatively I will be offering 1 on 1 training targeted specifically at making your images salable and print ready.

Email me for more info, dates, costs etc

Porth Y Post – Chaos Theory

Porth Y Post – Chaos Theory

Well, we’re back in Yorkshire after a fantastic break in Wales/Anglesey. Had some superb weather and was great to hook up with friends old and new.

Now the processing of some 2000 images starts, this may seem an extraordinary amount but I work on approx 10% use rate so I’ll probably get 20 ish suitable shots that I am totally 100% happy with to sell, there rest i use for testing techniques and you never know future software updates may make advances in processing that will help. I generally ditch anything up to 90% perfect out of the camera and only clean and adjust levels, I rarely crop an image as its one of my pet hates, if I cant get the shot right in the field its just not good enough.

Title says it all really, wild waves crashing in from every angle, with the most beautiful sunset descending against the ancient rocks of this historic place. It’s now my favourite location, I’ll be back in the future for sure, I have only touched on what is available here for me.

Good to be back and blogging but I have loads on, 3 exhibitions to get ready for plus some MRT images to sort and several prints to get out for customers this week. And I have just done the most almighty leg session at the gym with Marky Mark, I walked out like John Wayne, it’s gonner hurt like hell later.

loads to follow

Full Force

Full Force

Another from my scouting mission at Aysgarth in The Dales, this time showing the full force of the lower falls section, amazing colour water and such power too.

Surprisingly not that many people there for a Saturday, must be a Sunday location, anyway it was nice to have this section virtually to ourselves, cant wait to go back later in the year for my sunset shoot.

Its my dads 80th on Saturday so for a treat I’m taking him my uncle and brother in law to Eden Camp in North Yorkshire, he loves the war stuff, mind you so do I, went several years ago with Jo’s dad , had a great day out, its a must for all kids and adults alike.

Hope this heat gives way to some cooler weather, its not helping me and Stormy!

Golden Falls

Golden Falls

What a wonderful weekend some may say “Awesome”:-( facebook joke.

We went to Aysgarth Falls in The Yorkshire Dales so I could do a scouting shot for a shoot later in the year. Aysgarth Falls is made up essentially of 3 falls Higher, Middle and yes Lower. This shot is of the Middle Falls and I just loved the golden colour of the rich peat/iron waters contrasting against the harsh rock sides acting as compressing guides to make the waters flow even faster.

I’ll post some more shots later of the lower, the Higher is somewhat less dramatic, the Lower although a little tricky to get down onto the  rocky bank is great for a picnic and the falls are stunning, this will be the location of my October shot.

Shoot tonight at Mountain Rescue HQ, a few of the guys that missed the Queens Jubilee Medal presentation are having theirs presented and then its vehicle equipment check night.

Hope this weather holds out now, beautiful this morning

Fridays Crystal Day You Know

Crystal Sunburst

Ok so it isn’t but it could well be and why not…..and lets face it this is the only shot I had ready.

Been a very busy week and tonight is no exception, shooting the Mountain Rescue Team receiving their much deserved Jubilee Medals from the Lord Lieutenant of south Yorkshire then freelance shots outside with family etc. Then Sunday standing at Tesco’s Pensitone with the team gazebo so pop along and say hi and please donate if you can spare anything.

At long last I am back in The Peaks next week so look out for some spectacular images coming up over the next week or so.

have a great weekend

Pastures New

Pasture New

Now don’t panic I’m not leaving as the title suggests, it just suited it so well.

Something about the smell of freshly cut grass thats seems so English doesn’t it, saying that it was in Wales but you know what I mean.

Used a couple  filters on this, polariser plus reverse grad for those rich sky tones, cleaned and leveled in cs5 only. As I demonstrated on my last workshop Chris and Carrie will attest that my images are the way they are at the location not computer photo shopped, the fun is being there doing it and believe me many times it doesn’t work out but I wouldn’t swap it for anything else.

Honoured to be doing the photography for my Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team on Friday night as long serving  guys receive their Queens Jubilee medal from David Moody Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, will be a great night I’m sure.

Doing more Search and Rescue training tonight, will those midges please leave me alone, any tips welcome as I’m getting bitten to hell and back with the little blighters!!!

Morning All

Its got the making of a great week weather wise but lets not forget its Wimbledon so brollies at the ready!

Just back from a great week in Wales, weather played fair for a few days but especially well on my workshop day with a wonderful couple Chris and Carrie, its the first time I have been a birthday present and I was truly honoured. We spent nearly 12 hours at 3 locations and managed all we set out to complete with great results. They both easily grasped the concepts and were producing wonderful shots throughout the day, I’ll post some shots later. Chris is an extremely talented photographer in his own right as well as producing some stunning video work. check out his site HERE

Today’s shot is one I have been waiting to do for ages and I have been very patient to get this due to the suns location as it sets and the tides for the sea channel. I sat here in the baking sand for a good hour just watching and waiting, doing test shot after test shot until this scene came through and it was just perfect. This has to be for me one of my all time fav’s and is going on my wall and my forthcoming exhibition at Cannon Hall Museum Barnsley July to October 2012.

Today sees The Olympic Torch come through Barnsley, Ive been asked to attend and rattle a few shots off so don’t be surprised if you see my rather large frame on Calendar or something getting in the way of the runner, hope I don’t trip them up, the guys are already cordoning off the town centre ready for its arrival 1-2pm, hope the weather stays nice for it.

Busy week as I have to get my shots ready for the exhibition, 2 training nights with Mountain Rescue, an exhibition in Wales to plan for and a shoot for Mountain Rescue on Friday night for members receiving the Queens Jubilee Medal.

I’ll try and post a few images this week in between outing and shoots.

Rhosneigr Smooth Storm Skies

Rhosneigr Smooth Storm Skies

The weather is shocking and I spent last night in the Peaks with Woodhead Mountain Rescue doing stretcher training, great team and I’m loving it, cant wait for next training session.

As for Rhosneigr, well I’ll be there tomorrow, here’s hoping for some great storm clouds again and a fab week. Got a great day planned with my workshop Sunday, really looking forward to it.
