Happy New Year to all

been so busy lately so apologies I have still to catch up with my mail to some of you, rest assured I’ll be caught up by next week.

Great news is that I passed my assessment to become a full team member of Woodhead Mountain Rescue, its been an arduous task but one I have loved doing, great guys and team spirit. Managed several call outs already and was first on scene to an incident involving a woman with a head injury, took great care with her before handing over the ambulance service.

I’m back on track now with my work too, a few commissions have  come in and December was a fantastic month for print sales, I’d like to thank all my customers for their continued support and appreciation of my work. The exhibition at the Civic in Barnsley managed a sale and a commission so I’d like to thank David and his staff for their help and support too.

This weekend will see me in The Peaks, Howden Moor Sunday for a 14k circular photo shoot, hope this weather plays fair, we need some nice early spring sunshine to help us through these couple of dark months ahead.

Other news, Stormy has been mated with a lovely boy called Echo from Birmingham, he is a dead ringer for her but his eyes are the opposite way round blue left brown right. hoping we get long haired puppies with blue/brown eyes, I’ll update as time progresses

Have a great weekend

Adrian.

Dumfries Autumn Trig

Dumfries Trig

Beautiful autumn colours everywhere at the moment, the best thing about the UK is that we do have these wonderful transitions of seasons. As we move into winter and the bleak weather takes hold its so comforting to see all the tones that nature deals us as an end of year gift. A walk now will see the ground covered with wilting foliage with great shades of colour and textures.

Got a great night out in the cold tonight with mates, should be fun, camera at the ready for some snow/frost shots tomorrow mornings sunrise.

Today’s shot is from Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries, the coast is just to the left of shot. A lovely autumn walk with fantastic views of the coastline and mountains.

Have a great weekend all

Not sure just how much more cheesy I could get with a title, think I may have hit my limit..lol anyway it says it all it was near as darn it midnight and it was in Mossyard one of my Scottish togging grounds. I had waited patiently all evening for this shot and the clouds kept obscuring the moon right up until I think it was 11:40 ish. I think it was worth it and I’m very pleased with the results.

Away for a Clumber Park weekend again tomorrow, looking forward to some bike riding with Stormy by my side, she has some new goggles well “DOGGLES”  to keep  debris out of her eyes as we cycle through the woods picture below….no doubt she’ll steel the show with my picture above but I don’t mind she’s more important than me for sure….

Please ignore the poor quality image of her it was a rush iPhone snap in the dark of our kitchen. You can see how impressed she is with them..hhmmm the jury is out!

Have a great weekend all

Flaming Wings

Flaming Wings

I know, I know, the title made me hungry too! but it’s what it is isn’t it, very reminiscent of an Angels wings a blaze.

I used a polariser and an ND .6 to get the just how I wanted on this image although it was a very stormy night at Glencoe. we had managed to put our brand new canopy up for 30 mins before the gale force winds sent us rushing back to wind it back in and that was it for nearly 14 days…boo hoo.

Not much done processing wise either, cleaned and curves for the brightness to the middle, a 5 min job which is how it should be.

Top location here and great if you don’t fancy following me up a mountain, this is 20m from my van door at the Glencoe  end of Loch Leven and I was only stood in a foot or so of the water so relatively dry for a change!

Looking forward to a long weekend ahead at Clumber Park with my Sis “Sid” as she is know, she never got the hang of predictive text and it stuck at Sid… Hopefully be nice for a gentle bike ride with Stormy doing the pulling.

Other good news I managed to argue my case with BT this morning over their disgusting management  of my account and systems I have had for the last 15 years, I am now in credit and they are sending me a cheque tonight, I have also closed all accounts with them too and switched supplier. It’s sad they think they are the only ones who can supply data and voice lines and they don’t really care if you stay or go. Not how it used to be years ago when organisations fought for your custom…. a lesson they will learn in the future I’m sure.

Have a great

On the Bonnie bonny banks of….well not quite!

Loch Lochy Mist

I know, I know but it’s not a million miles away is it?

on my way from Ben Nevis up to Loch Ness, stopped in the lay by A82  for a you know what!, it was early morning and this was the scene….Instantly forgot all about a pee and quickly got my camera setup complete with Heliopan 105mm Polariser, I spent a good 30 mins taking shots at various angles of this site, I especially love the cloud/mist rising up from the loch such a peaceful place but within 30mts you have very heavy traffic hammering past at breakneck speed. Pity people don’t have or make time to stop and have 5 mins to see such sights hey?.

Tablets kicked in this morning and my back feels a little less tender so I may try a walk in a bit with Stormy, not letting her anywhere near the river Dearne again, I couldn’t stand the hour or so it took to clean her up again, very traumatic…

Sort of promised myself a jaunt to the coast this weekend, back willing!

all my best

Think we need this!

Dumfries Sunrise

Thought with all this freezing weather we deserve a nice sunrise shot, especially so for me  as it’s day 2 of our heating and water boiler swap out and move, I woke up at 2am this morning and my nose was freezing, thank God for electric blankets, I stuck my head under the sheets and stayed there until 6am, Stormy jumped on at 3am ish and made herself comfy, screwed up into a tiny ball of fur, I think she was feeling it too.

Hopefully the new system will be something like and working today…I have an oil plug in radiator but you can watch the electric monitor jump from £0.13p per hour to £0.90p per hour and it makes me feel very conscious of its use, so it’s wooly jumpers on and my photography winter trousers on….bbbrrrrr. Must admit we’re looking forward to saving some money on the gas, the old boiler was 40+ yrs old and very inefficient . wonder if Jo will let me spend the savings on some new gadgets? probably NOT.

Looking forward to getting back out next week, been horribly stuck in while they do the boiler work, I certainly couldn’t do an office job ever again, I’d be staring out the window all day and end up getting sacked..

Good luck to my wonderful Mrs this afternoon got her exam in Databases and she’s feeling a little unsure of herself, she’ll do it, she’s better at them than me.

Roll on the weekend and hopefully a shoot or two

all my best

The river “Water of Fleet” gently flows through Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries.

This shot was taken whilst having a great  late’ at the riverbank cafe’ in Gatehouse, they also have webcams and cameras setup so you can sit in the warmth and watch the riverbank wildlife, well worth a visit.

Did a great shoot yesterday with two families with children for leaflets and posters to promote a children’s  centre, I know they say don’t work with kids but it was really nice, I spent an hour laying on the floor filming and laughing at their antics, hope they like the shots they were very cute.

Just added a “commissions” section to my gallery, its password protected and will be for prospective new private commissions to view my works prior to ordering my services, it will give an insight into my style and approach of magazine/promotional work.

Waiting for 2 printers to be delivered this morning then off to Sherburn in Elmet to install them, then it’s off for a riverbank walky with Stormy. Rest of the week is devoted to our super dupa boiler being installed, really looking forward to cheaper gas, can’t believe how much we’ve been paying especially with our 40 year old boiler….no not Joanne!, should I delete that..lol

have a great day

When you’re given lemons!

Eilean Donan Castle

As the title suggests you have to make the best of a situation and there’s nothing worse than the British weather for cocking up what was to be a lovely shoot. Eilean Donan has been on my “to do” list for ages now and we managed to spare 1hr whilst driving back from Skye to Dumfries with the caravans on the back.

The heavy rain stopped just long enough for me to stand in the water and capture  this image, then it threw it down again. I do however like the mood it gives and lets face it how many 1000’s of shots have we seen this in a sunrise or sunset format, Very very classic hey! Unfortunately this may not be that appealing for sales but it certainly gives a more unique slant to this view and one I’m pleased with.

Looking forward to a day out tomorrow, reservoir sunsets, hopefully with a twist

Sometimes you just have to!

Storm Approaching

Although I appreciate that sometimes you cannot avoid putting your tripod in the holes of  a previous photographer,  I hate with a passion seeing the same shot over and over again on sites,  The Peak District has and is being done to death with scores of the same shot and heavy footed togs disturbing the natural landscape. I have purposefully left the Peaks to these guys while I research new and exciting avenues of photography within the area. I hope to come up with some uniqueness in my work as I do now with my current work.

This shot was taken on Buachaille Eite Mòr, Glen Etive area and although I am guilty of the traditional shot of the peak etc etc I turned my attention to an angle or point of view not commonly seen.  I had to kneel in the icy waters to get this shot, believe me not that easy as there is quite a drop behind you into  a plunge pool and whilst carrying 2st of gear I wouldn’t rate my chances!

It does however give I hope a smooth flowing feel from right back to left front with the addition of the storm rolling in from the north, the peak to the left shrouded in mist, it made the odd appearance later on.

We have some snow here in Barnsley today, took Stormy out for her constitutional at 7am and we skidded round the block until we got down by the river and canal, just looking out of my studio window now, the snow is falling again as my conifers bend with the icy wind…….

Long drive tomorrow to Whitchurch, Aylesbury, hope it doesn’t snow too much tonight, I know they have forecast a big freeze so I’ll pack some winter gear in the car and take a flask I think.

Wishing you all a great week all, so pleased they are now playing Christmas songs on the radio and we have our light on too, my fav time of the year for sure, waiting for neighbours to catch up as we’re the only ones lit up…lol looks like Santa’s grotto

Vort-X

Vort-X

It’s Friday….wwwhheeeyyy

Sun is shining, I got a job on later this morning then hopefully off to the peaks this afternoon for sunset shoot with a mate.

This shot Vort-X well nearly! camera on tripod, filters on, hi ISO 1000 lens wide open f2.8, speed 1/1400 wack a rock in and hope for the best…my god sounds like Jamie Oliver, now there’s an idea the Jamie Oliver of photography, taking it to the masses, showing all the smoke and mirrors…ok ok I’m going too far now I know but if I can encourage and inspire one person to take up photographer by dispelling all the myths and giving tips that work then its all been worth it….oh and it’s nice to sell too.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend, if you’re off shopping, GOD HELP YOU, bet it’s madness out there

Me its a hair cut and painting the TV/Chillax room….Such Fun!
