Porth Y Post Claw

Porth Y Post Claw

Another dreary day here in Yorkshire so I can get on with my massive catch up, saying that I’m off to check out my exhibition space soon with my printer to check size locations, should be fun.

Question?

would you and why enter photography competitions and pay for the privileged to possibly win a decent prize when knowing full well that you will only win if you match the criteria of a judge and that it would suit their final selection to promote what it is about. I have recently noticed that my in box and spam box are getting large amounts of win this or that £25 entrance fee and backed by a credible photographer……so would you and why, is it time these were free for all?

look forward to your replies guys.

Crystal Sunset

Crystal Sunset

A flash of mist as the sun sets captured in my trusty crystal, should bring a smile to a miserable day, rain and mist around today so its a catch up with processing day and having suffered the indignity of having our caravan stolen last weekend while I was away with MRT we have to go through it all with the loss adjuster this afternoon, hopefully we’ll get things sorted sooner rather than later, need my sea fix real soon, little tent may have to have to run out to Anglesey short term.

This shot, 99% in the sea 1% cleaned on MAC……100% passion

Portha Y Post Sunset

Portha Y Post

What a miserable morning here in Yorkshire, my thoughts have gone back to last trip to Anglesey and in particular my last night shoot at Porta Y Post, when ever I feel low which it isn’t very often me being uber happy, much to the annoyance of some I just stare into the sea or go up to the Peaks for a walk and hey presto normal service is resumed.

Had a lovely walk yesterday afternoon at Royd Moor for a commission client, Stormy had a great 5k hunt round, fortunately she didn’t manage to kill anything especially after the vole incident the other day, I ended up trying to do CPR on the poor thing, Mountain Rescue skills kicked in…sadly it passed away in my hand. Couldn’t really tell Stormy off, it’s what she does, She’s a husky and their prey drive is unbelievable.

Getting exhibition shots ready today.

Sunset Rain

Sunset Rain

As the weekend approaches and I get my kit ready for a long day in the Peaks tomorrow i thought I’d better get on with the Wales work so here’s another from my last shoot on Anglesey. Yes I was soaked as it was a torrential storm but as it gave way to the sunset I had a brief 5 minutes to setup clean the camera and filters and get this image before I was forced to make a hasty retreat back to the comfort of my car. Managed to enlarge this one and now have it in a frame….looks soooooo moody, very pleased with it.

Hoping all goes well tomorrow for my shoot and the Grin & Bear it race with Woodhead Mountain Rescue, hope we raise some well needed and deserved funds for the team to enable us to carry on doing superb work for our area.

Every Angle

Every Angle

Just goes to show, if you wait long enough after sunset the light changes to your advantage. I’d almost given up on this night as the storm persisted  with heavy rain and thunderous clouds but experience has taught me that after a storm the clouds and sky can be at their most beautiful and breathtaking….this night was no exception. The waves were still quite strong 1-2m high and the wind was almost knocking me off my feet but the sky lit up with some beautiful colours and the waves made sea claws over the rocks. This was the last shot of the night and certainly one of my favourites from the whole trip.

Big training this weekend with  Woodhead Mountain Rescue, its our 1st Aid course, really looking forward to this, learned so much over the last few months, one of my best ever choices in life to join, great team, great work..nuff said. Please do spare a thought for us guys and girls as winter approaches, we depend wholly on charity for our gear and safety equipment. If you can spare anything at all please donate HERE

Have a great weekend

Sea Mist Sunset

Sea Mist

During a pretty heavy storm I was able to grab this shot, there was a sea mist and then the heavens opened,  I had to hold on to my tripod as it was in danger of going over and the waves were getting more and more violent spraying my filters making the shots near impossible. All too quickly the sun disappeared beyond the horizon and darkness fell….I hobbled off the rocks with my torches on and made for a well earned cuppa.

Why would you watch TV when you can have this for FREE

Funny how some music works for me while I stand in the sea but the embedded song “Devil in Me” by Natalie Duncan was on my Iphone while I stood there, it just did it for me, see what you think

Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks

A beautiful sunset at my favorite place, Rhosneigr, Anglesey.

A very special night as the sun set sending shimmering light across the sea and casting a subtle reflection on the sea. A little unusual rock formation of Twin Peaks so I thought I’d add my little individuality with my trusty crystal ball….no jokes please!

Sorting more images for a big exhibition in Barnsley for this December in a great location, I’ll post details closer to the time. My exhibition at Cannon Hall, Cawthorne has brought a few sales so I’m very pleased with the orders there so far. Also getting images ready for a sales/exhibition in a restaurant in Rhosneigr so I better get cracking.

hope you enjoy this one anyway

A not so typical Welsh view

Welsh View

Well it is sort of isn’t it? sheep, mountains, beautiful rolling meadows…..but that cloud formation over Bwlch Mawr and Gyrn Goch is stunning. Located near Aberdesach, as we drove toward Anglesey I looked in my rear view mirror and was greeted with this beautiful scene. I jumped out of the car, well after stopping first of course! and ran to a near by lay bay I had just passed and this gave me the  composition, it’s slightly different from my original composition as this seemed to work better for me, the sheep seems more balanced and fore, mid and background blended smoothly.

Just had a great meeting for my December exhibition, some fabulous space and came away inspired for the project, just need a shed load of money for the canvasses doing, going to be a huge triptych again and a smaller on in the entrance to lay the seed of the image in the public’s mind, very psychological stuff indeed, hope it pays off.

more details to follow

Jurrasic

Porth Y Post – Jurassic

Porth Y Post – Jurassic – As the title suggests, a very Jurassic scene at Port Y Post, I was expecting a pterodactyl to come screeching past me.

Always a very serene and emotive location for me and it will I think remain special always especially so with me seeing the seal last week as I finished the shoot, can’t believe I didn’t really take any pics of him it was such a surreal moment, I was mesmerised by the fact that this beautiful creature was staring at me almost welcoming me into his world, the moment would have been lost if I’d started snapping away, and I owed him the respect he deserved not to try and disturb his viewing pleasure. wonder if he’ll be there next time I visit.

As usual, filters reverse grad and .6 glass, cleaned only in PS

Hay Bales Sunset and Sea

Hay Bales Sunset and Sea

At the foot of Holyhead Mountain nestled closely by the sea the farmer kindly placed some bales in perfect line of the setting sun, well I think he did anyway, although it looks calm and serene it was anything but, gale force freezing winds coming from the sea, it did however add to the sky interest. fast moving clouds called for a decent shutter speed along with my trusty reverse grad filter to enhance the beautiful sunset colours and mood.

Getting frequently asked about processing, I am looking into producing a short DVD or download of my workflow process within PS 4, 5 and Lightroom. alternatively I will be offering 1 on 1 training targeted specifically at making your images salable and print ready.

Email me for more info, dates, costs etc
