Freezing Curbar Mist

Curbar Mist

A freezing mist,  Curbar Edge at sunrise

Still got the dreaded cold now on my chest as well and a full day sorting pictures for the Civic exhibition in December so I’ll have to get my skates on, was advised to man up so I have taken the sound advice and wrapped up warm and see if I can sweat it out. No gym though, not a good idea when its on your chest so I’m told.

Anyway onwards and upwards so they say, more later if I get chance.

Forest Lane – Sunrise Mist

Forest Lane - Sunrise Mist

Happy Friday all……thanks goodness it’s here.

Very nearly managed to kill stormy at 6am, out for a run and she darted across the front of me to get to another dog as I set off running again and received and toe straight in her ribs, she squealed like I have never heard her before, poor little thing, I must have really hurt her, took 5 mins rubbing while she squeaked at me….she’s OK now albeit a little nervy of me, going to take some chewdles to bring her round.

This shot again from the weekend shows the intensity of the sunrise on a frosty morning, I had my polariser on which only just enabled me to pick out the blue sky top right, it wasn’t visible really with the naked eye as the light was so bright.

I have taken delivery of my Canon Powershot S100 compact camera, what a piece of kit, love it especially the slow motion video bit, great for capturing Stormy bombing around, when she isn’t hurt by a bad owner! I feel soooooo bad

Got some great stuff happening tomorrow. I’ll report back on Monday

have a great weekend

Forest Burst

Forest Burst

As I went for a run yesterday morning at Clumber Park the sun had already reached the forest canopy but fortunately the mist was still settled in between the trees, Stormy was champing at the bit to run on so we made it a sprint to get back and collect my camera, 1DS is far to heavy to run with so Jo what a wonderful wife has let me buy a Canon S100 should be here this week, can’t wait as it’s a beaut little compact. Anyway made it back to van and collected the big camera and made it to this location as quick as possible. I was very lucky as 5 mins later the mist had all but gone as it was burnt away by the sunrise.

I managed a few more shots of the frosty forest floor and then had a lovely walk back to the van for breakfast, Stormy had a good sniff round the undergrowth no doubt searching for food….she’s started eating properly, its only taken 18 months to get her onto a proper diet, Huskies are notorious bad picky eaters.

Hopefully post another later

have a great week all

Curbar Sunrise

Curbar Sunrise

Another from a little while ago, hopefully I’ll be out this week at some stage, new pain killers should kick in later..lol

Curbar Edge in The Peaks as the warmth of the winter sun rises and lights the valley below, it gives a beautiful deep amber glow with long shadows from the escarpment and trees below. This was a very cold sunrise in deed and if you look to the left in the dark rocks you can see what looks like lens flare, it is in fact a freeze on my filter, I had to keep cleaning then down but within a few seconds it was back on again…..not a lot you can do about this I’m afraid, still I think it works nicely and adds to the overall wintery feel of the image.

have a great day

Think we need this!

Dumfries Sunrise

Thought with all this freezing weather we deserve a nice sunrise shot, especially so for me  as it’s day 2 of our heating and water boiler swap out and move, I woke up at 2am this morning and my nose was freezing, thank God for electric blankets, I stuck my head under the sheets and stayed there until 6am, Stormy jumped on at 3am ish and made herself comfy, screwed up into a tiny ball of fur, I think she was feeling it too.

Hopefully the new system will be something like and working today…I have an oil plug in radiator but you can watch the electric monitor jump from £0.13p per hour to £0.90p per hour and it makes me feel very conscious of its use, so it’s wooly jumpers on and my photography winter trousers on….bbbrrrrr. Must admit we’re looking forward to saving some money on the gas, the old boiler was 40+ yrs old and very inefficient . wonder if Jo will let me spend the savings on some new gadgets? probably NOT.

Looking forward to getting back out next week, been horribly stuck in while they do the boiler work, I certainly couldn’t do an office job ever again, I’d be staring out the window all day and end up getting sacked..

Good luck to my wonderful Mrs this afternoon got her exam in Databases and she’s feeling a little unsure of herself, she’ll do it, she’s better at them than me.

Roll on the weekend and hopefully a shoot or two

all my best

Sunrise Snow on Ladybower

Sunrise Snow on Ladybower

Sunrise in The Peak district  casting a warm orange glow over the snow tipped peaks. Ladybower in the bottom still frozen in the shade of the winter sun…..if Carlsberg did sunrises and all that!!

At last we have some snow heading our way this weekend, can’t wait, we’ll be out in it me and Stormy  stomping all over the peaks and maybe the dales too.

Off for MRI scan in 30 mins, cd at the ready though I do feel a little nervous, kinda hoping you go in feet first rather than head!!

will report back later, have a great Thursday all

OK so I played guitar as well!

Hordron Sunrise Winter Moon

As the title suggest I thought what the hell it’s Christmas I’ll lay my soul open bare and let you into one of my secrets from a past life.

I used to be fairly decent on guitar and played in several rock bands, never I must say with any degree of success, probably cos we were crap..lol but it was fun at the time. The track I have uploaded is from a different life, when I gave up playing in rock bands I tried to put something together that would sell, maybe TV program intro that sort of thing, anyway me and my mate Pete who is/was a great singer put a 4 track together and this is one of the songs, I Wrote the music, played guitar and co wrote the lyrics with Pete.

Have a laugh anyway

Just a quick thank you to my friends and customers who have helped make 2011 a great year for me and my work, I really appreciate it and some special people have helped put work my way too, so thank you.

Have a great Christmas and I hope 2012 brings you all health and wealth

Willowbank Pony Sunrise

Willowbank Pony Sunrise

Hey its been snowing. yipppeeeee its managed to get me in the Christmas mood at last Woke up this morning and heavy snow was falling, I looooove snow and so does Stormy, managed to get the car out and drive Jo to work.

Just been for a snow walk with Stormy. we are lucky enough to have some lovely countryside on our doorstep. Literally 100mtrs away we have a disused canal and the River Dearne along with relatively unspoilt grassland with horses  and wild ponies roaming free. I didn’t take my camera today but I did have my iPhone, gotta love it as it gives great pictures like this one, suns rays just reflecting off her back. When I had finished checking the shots it the pony came up behind and snuzzled me, and Stormy gave her a kiss….if only all life was like this!

Waiting for deliveries today and prints to get ready for clients plus a bigger snow walk later if it stays long enough…Stormy was a naughty girl at training class last night so I need to “up her game” as it were, she wouldn’t stay all the time when told, doesnt seem much but it could save her life one day when we’re out in the wilds, you never know.

Enjoy the snow

Rememberance

Remembrance

Well what an emotional weekend, but one filled with memories of my grandfather one of the brave. News also that a you guy from Barnsley was killed in Afghanistan last Wednesday, so tragic, lets hope and pray it wasn’t in vain and some good comes from this.

I did the 11.11.11 shoot at Barnsley Cenotaph, there was a good crowd and the weather played fair for a change, then Jo, stormy and me went to the official Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph yesterday, very atmospheric and drizzley. couldn’t believe such a wonderful turn out of all ages, made me very proud to be from Barnsley, Yorkshire and an Englishman, everyone had tears in their eyes and lumps in their throats, such was the emotional sermon. Young lads of the TA and cadets accompanied by other brigades from the ambulance and fire marched past and were hand clapped all the way round the Town Hall. A wonderful thing to part of.

Today’s shot is titled “Remembrance”. It doesn’t have to be about a military remembrance it can be any loved one you miss. When I took this shot staring deep into the brilliance  of the sunrise I thanked my mum who died 10 years ago for giving me her eye for composition, I wish she could have seen what I have achieved now.

I have also tagged some music for all those 80’s lovers out there, it was one of my favourites, if you go to the bottom of the blog there are controls  you can turn it on or off from there. It’s the extended version of Cutting Crews ” died in your arms tonight”, turn it up loud and enjoy.

Starting my diet and training today, 5:45am did my cross training with Stormy staring at me for treats to be thrown to her, think she like me training, then we did our morning walky and its off to the gym for a light session at 10am , hopefully my back will hold up ok……..

Have a great Monday and week

Their Lives Gave Us Peace

Their Lives Gave Us Peace

A very special image for today and one I would like to dedicate to my grandfather Francis Stevenson who took part in the ‘D’ landings 6th June 1944, there were some 9000 casualties (estimate), he died when I was a child in the late 60’s, I can just remember him. My mother only got his war medals in the 90’s and I believe the war office is still producing them today for families of  soldiers who never received them.

It says so much about these men who fought to save out today’s that they weren’t bothered to go and get their medals. Mum said grandad didn’t talk about the war, not that it was a taboo subject, you just didn’t talk about it. Whole streets of young men went to war together and never came back, dying side by side  and for what……

We treat our freedom with such complacency today as though it’s just there! while we still have our young men fighting to protect our shores from terrorist abroad. We are protected by a media bubble that inst allowed to show the true horrors of Afghanistan and other campaigns because of health and safety and the fact someone may be eating their dinner.

We allow every nation and creed to celebrate their own religion in our country and ask only that we get along peacefully, unfortunately their are elements of society bent on destroying this peace. I don’t know the answer to this problem I just wonder what my grandfather would think of it all now, all I can do is to live now as he fought for and live my life the best I can, caring, supporting, understanding and having compassion for others, hopefully this will reflect in my day to day life and I’ll be on the right tracks to be a true man like he was.

“They shall grow not old, as those that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”

God bless them all
