Stormy Sunburst

Morning all

after my shocking weekend failing my exam and feeling very low I was uplifted by the support of friends and fellow team members words of encouragement, it’s so easy to make someone feel better with just a few words, we should all try it, and as  the saying goes “A man is not finished when he is defeated, he’s finished when he quits” Mr Richard Nixon hhmmm, still it does apply to how I now feel, build a bridge and get over it comes to mind. I now have 3 months more cramming to the re sit and this time I will do it.

Today’s shot from Rhosneigr again, I know but it’s where I’m meant to be, can”t help myself and we have so many friends there. This is probably one of the best storms I have seen there, I got absolutely soaked but I’m sure you’ll agree it was well worth it. I have managed quite a few saleable images out of this shoot and still have a few more to process and upload to the web.

Off on a commission shoot later in the week, weather permitting as its a shoot for the local authority to highlight a walking route so I have to make it look inviting and family friendly, no pressure then!

Stormy had her 1ts scan yesterday and it was -tive for puppies  but we have a second scan next week and they could be hiding up under her ribs, so you never know, she’s certainly acting strange but it could be a phantom pregnancy so she’ll need to be kept a close eye on.

Cool Sunset

Cool Sunset

Hi all

it may not look it but it was a freezing night when I took this sunset, a very icy breeze washing cold sea spray onto my face and hands, can’t beat it!

So so busy today lots to get through and a busy weekend getting the drive ready for the new caravan then Sunday morning doing the shots for our Woodhead MRT Trigger race in The Peaks followed by some more ground works on the drive. Love being busy it makes you appreciate your quiet time more.

hope you all have a great weekend, wrap up warm its going to be a cold one

Rhosneigr – Over Dramatic Skies

Rhosneigr – Over Dramatic Skies

One from late summer at Rhosneigr, a super storm hit the coast and minutes later me the camera and Stormy were soaking, but as I’m sure you’ll agree it was well worth it. pre and after storms always give some great light and if you’re prepared to venture out in it you stand a good chance of capturing nature at its most ferocious and beautiful.

Again, I’m asked how I do this sort of shot, so I’ll list what and how

Canon 1DS MKII, Lee .9 hard grad, Singh Ray reverse grad .9, f/11, 3s

Photoshop, clean dust and spray off with healing tool, adjust levels, dodge a little of the waves to highlight them and add a tracker watermark……thats it, nothing fancy no smoke and mirrors, if you cant do this without a computer you’re not a photographer.

If you’d like to see it done and more importantly learn how to make it happen why not join one of my courses in 2013, just send me an email with your preferred location, coast or land.

Portha Y Post – Golden Path

Portha Y Post – Golden Path

Hey at last I have found a little time to update my blog, been so busy lately, the exhibition at Barnsley Civic Hall starts tomorrow with a private viewing tonight, special thanks to Allan at the printers for a great job under pressure, very pleased with the outcome as the results can vary when transferred to canvass as a print solution….yawn yawn I hear! anyway you get the idea.

Weather is positivity peeing down and the wind is getting up, better dig the bad weather gear out for later when I head  out to Mountain Rescue training, saying that we’re in doors doing casualty care so will be nice and warm, especially if I take my hot choccy flask with me…yum and Lisa makes her gorgeous buns, you see its not all running up swamp moors in the snow, wind and rain thats 90 % of it, the rest is boring..lol

Got my invite to do the Rhosneigr Christmas lights this weekend so weather permitting me and Stormy will be heading down to north Wales and camping overnight, first outing for my new little tent so I can’t wait. Be great to catch up with friends too, it seems ages as we had the van stolen, but lets not dwell on that one, it’s sorted now.

Piccy for the Chronicle tomorrow morning re the exhibition, if you can find time I’d love for people to let me know what they think, it runs 22nd Nov until 4th Jan 2013, if you’re going I’ll shout you a coffee..

Rhosneigr Sunset Wash

Rhosneigr Sunset Wash

Ahh Rhosneigr, my spiritual home and place of many friends. Can’t believe its been 6 weeks already, I’m in desperate need of a sea fix so be ready for a visit very soon, got a few other things to sort out on Anglesey too and a permanent  exhibition…more on that later.

Bit dreary here in Barnsley and I’m still made up with cold which has decided to move from my head to my chest, and yes I know I should man up but it’s getting on my nerves now, 2 weeks of this and no signs of it getting better, is everyone else suffering the same? and what is your best cure?

Waiting in for my 20 canvasses to arrive and then getting kit ready as we’re doing a video shoot at the weekend for a clairvoyant which will be really interesting and I can’t wait to do this.

Crystal Peaks

Crystal Peaks

Well I’m part way through getting the shots ready for the Civic exhibition, 20 canvasses ordered yesterday, Printer guy is primed and ready and 8 shots ready to go, need to have another good session at it today.

Canon Hall exhibition comes down tomorrow well Thursday  and has given me a couple of very nice commissions so has been well worth while, generally exhibitions just work for getting your name known so it’s always a bonus to make something from them occasionally.

First job of the day though is cleaning the Jet Ski, have a guy interested in it, will miss it but I haven’t used it for nearly 2 years.

Todays image from Wales and is of my new crystal, a pressie from my mum in law Anne, nice when you get pressies you like and can use isn’t it?, mind you she’s pretty good at sorting them, husky, camera related things are always appreciated.

Porth Y Post Sunset Glow

Port Y Post – Sunset Glow

Yet another from my Port Y Post visit, must admit I think it’s one of the most productive shoots I have done, think it must be the place rather than me, I have never felt so much a kin to an atmosphere and location. literally had to force myself to leave, may take the little tent there next time.

Weathers turning cooler and dryer now which is great, frosty mornings and even some snow may be on its way, looking forward to a great weekend out with mates and a big fry up Saturday morning…yum yum.

I may get one more in later or tomorrow, stuck getting shots ready for clients and exhibition work, wish I was out filming.

have fun

Crystal Sunset

Crystal Sunset

A flash of mist as the sun sets captured in my trusty crystal, should bring a smile to a miserable day, rain and mist around today so its a catch up with processing day and having suffered the indignity of having our caravan stolen last weekend while I was away with MRT we have to go through it all with the loss adjuster this afternoon, hopefully we’ll get things sorted sooner rather than later, need my sea fix real soon, little tent may have to have to run out to Anglesey short term.

This shot, 99% in the sea 1% cleaned on MAC……100% passion

Every Angle

Every Angle

Just goes to show, if you wait long enough after sunset the light changes to your advantage. I’d almost given up on this night as the storm persisted  with heavy rain and thunderous clouds but experience has taught me that after a storm the clouds and sky can be at their most beautiful and breathtaking….this night was no exception. The waves were still quite strong 1-2m high and the wind was almost knocking me off my feet but the sky lit up with some beautiful colours and the waves made sea claws over the rocks. This was the last shot of the night and certainly one of my favourites from the whole trip.

Big training this weekend with  Woodhead Mountain Rescue, its our 1st Aid course, really looking forward to this, learned so much over the last few months, one of my best ever choices in life to join, great team, great work..nuff said. Please do spare a thought for us guys and girls as winter approaches, we depend wholly on charity for our gear and safety equipment. If you can spare anything at all please donate HERE

Have a great weekend

Sea Mist Sunset

Sea Mist

During a pretty heavy storm I was able to grab this shot, there was a sea mist and then the heavens opened,  I had to hold on to my tripod as it was in danger of going over and the waves were getting more and more violent spraying my filters making the shots near impossible. All too quickly the sun disappeared beyond the horizon and darkness fell….I hobbled off the rocks with my torches on and made for a well earned cuppa.

Why would you watch TV when you can have this for FREE

Funny how some music works for me while I stand in the sea but the embedded song “Devil in Me” by Natalie Duncan was on my Iphone while I stood there, it just did it for me, see what you think
