Fire and Ice - Turners sky

Winter is still with us and as this shot shows we get some dramatic skies at sunrise in The Peaks, even though it was burning through I was freezing cold and stood in a foot of snow, A big mug of Bovril sorted it out.

Thank god for Bovril…..

I’m not sponsoring Bovril before you say anything!, I just like Bovril, did I say it warms you right through especially with pepper in it, 2 shakes of course.

Rocks and Mist

One to accompany yesterdays shot, same shoot up on Higger Tor in The Peaks, freezing cold with a mist inversion cloaking the valley and trees below while the sun tried its best to burn through.

Sunrise and Rocks……One from Higger Tor in The Peak district, beautiful misty sunrise and detailed foreground, was freezing cold too, shot with a full square .6ND and .9 soft ND grad filter. Had to keep wiping the freezing mist off, hell of cleanup job as the lens gives out a little heat and mists up straight away.

Latest shot from Curbar Edge in The Peak District, as I came out of the car park to head up onto the edge itself I was presented with this image, I immediately downed my bag and set up shot, the result you see, we had a fantastic mist inversion that day and I have many more shots to sort through.

Todays blog is about photo enhancements, briefly every pro making money uses it and its not cheating or camera trickery, its a tool in as much a way as the the camera itself, I use it to enhance colour, light Dodging & Burning, contrast and mainly to clean the shot removing “dust bunny spots” my biggest bugbear of all.

A quote by the father of landscape photography himself Ansel Adams “Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships.” many of his prints were manipulated in the darkroom with these techniques, I like to think of it as lifting the image to a palatable taste, sometimes you need dreary but it rarely sells, customers want images that lift their sprit evoke a sense of euphoria, no body in truth wants to feel miserable staring at a dull uninspiring image on their living room wall do they?

- So yesterday I did a commercial shoot with Thunder and Claire helped with lighting and directing Thunder, not that he needs much as he's such a diva. The shoot was for Jack Lodge Grooming and will form part of his launch into his own hair products, he's a real nice guy and a top stylist (watch this space) If you know anyone that would benefit form my photography for their business, they could include one of the dogs or not, please forward and share this post to them, I do all commercial architecture, interior and product photography and guarantee I'll blow you away with the finished product. - Had 10 mins spare to look at some more of my Ireland shots from April, can't believe it's that long ago....Picture taken at Doolin with my back towards the Cliffs of Moher, if you haven't been it's worth it just to see the Atlantic in all its glory punishing the shoreline and yes I got soaked but that goes with the job, wouldn't have it any other way

- Feel free To Share If You know Anyone With A Young Family Monday I was fortunate enough to spend a fantastic few hours with little princess Amelia Faith and her brilliant mum and dad Natalie Suggitt and Craig Suggitt. Without doubt she is a beautiful baby and was an absolute star. I tend to find that patience is the key with children's photography especially when they are not your own and you need several little tricks to keep them entertained and focussed, I have a lens mate squeaky that helps from time to time. I'll be doing more shoots with Amelia as she grows up into a beautiful young lady. If you know someone with a young family that would like a home shoot with us, PM us, we only use the very best lighting equipment, back drops and props plus we are DBS checked FULLY insured and QUALIFIED.
