Fairy Pool

Fairy-Pool-1PLEASE SHARE

Second shot of the Skye series, the wondrous Fairy Pools with their beautiful tinted waters, gentle cascading falls and other worldly backdrop…….

Hmmm what they fail to tell you is that they are darn near impossible to find, getting their would entail getting absolutely soaked battling gale force winds and sleet like rain in your face and for lord knows what reason the wind and rain changes direction for when you are making your exit just to make matters worse and all this on top of a 9 hour drive…….

Well worth it I’d say!

We met countless couples/groups walking back down the path from the mountains who all had one question on their lips “where the hell is the fairy pool on the pictures?”, we quickly deduced they weren’t on the path and after what seemed an eternity of getting blasted with freezing wind lashed rain a slight glance to the right and our way back down gave us our goal…The Fairy Pools near Glenbrittle at the foot of the Black Cuillin Mountains on the Isle of Skye in the Highlands of Scotland.

We were quickly joined by other realising we’d struck gold and had to endure people in jeans and trainers standing ankle deep in the waters, fortunately they realised we were on a mission and graciously stepped aside when asked.

As for me and Chris we were wrapped up with all the right gear and had a great couple of hours stomping all over Glen Brittle and came away with our goal.

Elgol To The Cuillins

Elgol-2 PLEASE SHARE

Morning all

had a very busy and eventful weekend away on the Isle of Skye doing the book shoot North West start. Chris and myself set off at 2am Friday and drove the 450miles northwards, fast forward 9 hours and we were at our first stop, this being the Fairy Pools (picture to follow), very tired but when you’re greeted with the eventual view of the Pools all weariness  disappears and excitement takes over, I’ll do a full eventful story on the pools later.

Todays image is from Elgol looking across to The Cuillin range, eventful it was as we were being stalked by a group on a photo tour workshop of some description, unfortunately the tutor if that is what he was had his group of about 10 (way more than he could possibly deal and be personable with) all lined up and proceeded to hurl abuse if you got anywhere near in front of his sheep, I mean punters!. after an brief exchange of words I think mine and Chris’s blunt Yorkshire approach made him see the futility of pursuing any further conflict, and he moved away rapidly.

Anyway this shot one of many to follow was actually shot with my 70-200 lens from the car park, below the shot were a line of said tutors sheep, I mean clienst all taking the same shot, When I teach a workshop I actively encourage the guys to explore and attempt even at a location as popular as this to find a position of their own to give a certain degree of individuality, after all it’d be pretty boring seeing the exact same shot over and over wouldn’t it?. This team followed us round to our last shoot at Nest Point and again all lined up like sheep for the same shot, a great way to teach is a small group that you can give your time to and the client feels they are receiving your personal attention when they need it and so learn from you, large groups just make you money not friends.

Loads more to follow

So that’s our weekend sorted, is anyone up to anything better?, figure that will be everyone reading this.

Today’s image is from Anglesey, where else! and is of St Cywfans Churcha beautiful secluded bay that never seems to disappoint. Becoming a fave place of our to wind down after a hard day walking the pups, especially lovely to see the sun go down and calm seas.

Big Stopper – Llanddwyn Island

Llanddwyn-Island-Speed-CrossHi all

nearly the weekend and I have a few shoots to complete for Monday, one in the Peaks so I’m pleased with that as it’s been quite a while, I may well take Stormy with me especially as she’s having a makeover on Saturday afternoon courtesy of Elite Dog Grooming, can’t to see the fluff ball as she’s been blowing her coat for the last month and driving us mad with wooly fur everywhere, 3rd hoover this year, nothing lasts with a husky!

Another shot from Llanddwyn Island, this time using my Lee Big Stopper filter to gain some cloud drag, shot was midday so it would only allow 30secs at f/22, worked quite well though didn’t it.

Back Down To Earth – On With The Day Job

South-Stack-Pyramid-Mist A very happy Friday all,

After what seems to be a whirlwind week doing the album shoot for Ten which went down fantastically, was really great fun and the guys are awesome, all friendly and at the top of their game, if you love melodic hard rock with crystal clear vocals and stunning guitar work then Ten are the band for you. I am now their official photographer and will be doing other shoots in the near future, their new album “Albion” is due for release November 2014 I believe, can’t wait.

Finally managed to get round to processing my shots from Anglesey 2 weeks ago, this one is of South Stack lighthouse at sunset.

You’ll notice my trademark crystal pyramid but more importantly the misty smoke coming in from the right.  I have used this on countless shots and it also played a major role in the Ten shoot (pictures will be available after album launch, and sale to huge worldwide fan base), anyway my smoke machine is a Tiny CX and was supplied by http://www.smokemachines.net if you ask for Ben he’ll help you out, mention me and you’ll get a discount.  Very friendly company and his advice and knowledge of the product is fantastic, he not only saved me money but from buying the completely wrong model…..you tube doesn’t tell you everything lol

busy week ahead with 2 more shoots booked and prints to organise for an office environment…..

have a great weekend all

Just got back from a great 2 week hols come shoot /work on Anglesey and I’m back there tomorrow for a shoot with Rock Band Ten, really excited as I have followed them for many years….real pleasure day for me, saying that its taken all yesterday and up to 4pm today to get all the kit ready and tested. Good to have the assistance and company of Chris Philips with me too tomorrow, a talented photographer expanding his repertoire.

Will post an update later but the shots will have to wait until after the albums release and subsequent sale by Ten on line.

The Old Ropery

Room-With-A-View-2A wonderful Monday to you all, the sun is shining here in Yorkshire.

My day has just been made all the better after having an enormous compliment from a friend , really made my day and I’m sure you will be wonderful at what ever you decide is a new career for you. Made me think actually if I can feel this good after a few small words, how would it be if me / you send someone a text email call them even and tell them they are something special, imaging what sort of day that would turn out to be for the lucky recipient. It’s so easy to be nice isnt it?

Anyway on with today’s image, Sandend Scotland again, a wider view of the old ropery or what’s left of it anyway, takes a bit to walk round to it and it’s a little tricky under foot but I’m sure you’ll agree worth the challenge!. Would have like to call back again soon as the heather was just coming into bloom and the  smell of the sea and heather together was beautiful.

Spent the weekend on a commission project again down in Northants, though we did get caught up on the way down for 45 minutes in the M1 closure, at least we were far luckier than the poor people in the accident, sometimes you have to sit back and relax, there are definitely worse things happening to others, be thankful for you health etc etc. Spent a super day with good company and enjoyed the beautiful weather in a n even more beautiful part of our country, thatched cottages and country inns, canal walks and river folk…..who could ask for more.

Spending today processing shots and catching up doggy walking, poor things only got 2 walkies yesterday and they get cranky if I don’t manage at least 3 so it’s make it up to the pooches afternoon, think I’m I’m forgiven just given them a donut to share, I know its not good for them but a treat once in a while is good.

Anyway on with the day, enjoy everyone
