Stanage Edge Sunset Sphere

Stanage Edge Sunset Sphere

Well I managed my first outing last night to The Peaks, Stanage Edge with Stormy. It was very breezy and cold but we were rewarded with a stunning sunset, deep amber and glorious oranges dancing across the windswept sky. I thought this would be perfect conditions to try out my crystal ball, not to do a reading …lol but to invert the sunset and create this wonderful image.

Believe it or not but the only ting I have done is to clean the dust spots and up the brightness, the glow and colour is from my ND filters, get them right and you are always rewarded with superb tones. I use LEE Filters “thats my plug done”

I can’t believe we were the only ones up there on such a beautiful evening then I realised it was 4pm and most people are still at work, makes me so humble to be able to to do this for a living professionally.

Stormy really enjoyed herself and a fell runner came up for a chat and marveled at here stunning looks, he thought she was so gorgeous….didn’t dare tell him this demur little husky had just been pulling me all over the place to get to the sheep!

will have about 6 or so variations of this shot to post so will do later. I am now following some great advise given to me recently that is to go out and return with just the ONE shot you wanted, too many photographers go out and try and produce dozens of images running everywhere to capture shots when if you stay put and get the composition right first time, why move…. I did this recently in Wales where I took some 300+ images of the same scene as the sun went down, this was to produce just one image that was part of my ABIPP assessment material…must work then.

Back out later in the week, the East Coast is calling!!!!!!

Happy Monday all!

what a glorious full moon this morning, looks great with the whispering clouds gliding across it.

Well this week sees the start of the big push, starting training again as near as possible as I was last year be it  with a lot less weight, don’t think I’ll ever get back to the weights I used to be able to push…still fitness and health is more important than size isn’t it!.

Today me and Stormy will be in The Peaks this afternoon for the sunset, not sure where to go yet but we are definitely going for it, can’t wait, and later in the week we have a special shoot on, I will tell later plus we are doing an east coast shoot, possibly Spurn Point sunset or Thornwick Nab at Flamborough, be great to be at the sea again.

The attached shot is from Penmon Lighthouse on Anglesey, a place always in my heart and a beautiful place to sit and contemplate life, it would be easy to sit from sunrise to sunset and not realise where the day had gone.

Ah well, I will start getting my kit setup cleaned and ready for later, hope you all have a fab week

Sunset Crown

Sunset Crown

What a night of wind its been! and before I get the comedic comments I do mean the weather. The whole house was shaking at 3am, TV news says it was 90mph, I haven’t had a good look round the house yet to see if there is any damage to the roof, will check in a while.

This shot is from Wales, Rhosneigr my spiritual home, Jo knows as soon as we get there be it in a house, caravan or tent I am lost to the sea and happily stand knee or waist deep in it watching and waiting for the right composition. The light on this one was just perfect with the misty sky giving the crown effect to the setting sun, the foreground rock giving interest with its bright green seaweed and reflective sunlight bouncing from it.

Kit list for this shot
Canon 1ds MK III, f/22 0.4s ISO 100
Gitzo GK1581OT Tripod plus Sand Feet
Lee .9 ND Grad, Heliopan 105mm Circular Polariser
Wellies

Hoping for an outing tomorrow morning into the Peaks for a change, not been for a while as it’s tending to be flooded with photographers at the moment. Hopefully get into somewhere a little different from the norm.

All the best

Sunburst on Rocks

Sunburst on Rocks

Well it’s the New Year, Happy 2012 to all, I hope it brings you much good health and prosperity.

We’re back now, had a great short New Year break at Clumber Park in the Caravan, had a few good outings with Stormy doing the bike pulling she loves and as per usual we were in bed by 10pm NY eve! not one for partying anymore, I love being in with Jo and Stormy.

Now as for New Years resolutions, I already don’t drink don’t smoke and don’t eat rubbish so here’s my list

Buy a place on the coast at Anglesey….no point in staring small is there?,  it’s a dream I know but you never know

Get my back right and start training again, 19st plus so I need to get back into it big style

Get out more with Stormy on the bike and finally

Start the book and get the Yorkshire Calendar done

So whats on your list then?

Attached image is from my Scotland trip, this is the one where I fell down a crevice and cut my leg and hand, it fell dark very quickly indeed, luckily I had my father in Law with me and a couple of torches and we eventually made it back around the coast to safety…they hadn’t yet sent a search party out for us,  Jo was still watching TV but Stormy saw us miles away bless her.

Well the weather is appalling now, gale force winds and rain and I’m stuck in waiting for Virgin to come and install broadband, had my fill of BT, years of loyal patronage  and they try and screw me on a new contract, they’ve now lost me for good.

Hope everyone is OK this week, stay safe and warm
